The first line of defense
The .p12 file contains your complete digital identity. If someone gets hold of it and knows the password, they could sign documents on your behalf. Therefore, the password is vital.
Best practices:
- Length: Use at least 12 characters.
- Complexity: Combine uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols (
!@#$%^&*). - Uniqueness: Never use the same password you use for your email or social networks.
- Passphrases: A very secure technique is to use a passphrase (e.g.,
My.D0g.Eats.K1bbl3!). They are long, hard to guess by brute force, but easy for you to remember.
Never share your .p12 file or its password via email or WhatsApp.
